Which Chemical Peel would benefit me?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the top layers of the skin to peel off. The goal of a chemical peel is to improve the appearance of the skin by removing damaged or dead skin cells and promoting the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and texture. Depending on the strength of the chemical solution used, a chemical peel can range from a mild exfoliation to a deeper resurfacing treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the peel that you choose will directly impact the downtime and recovery period. Some patients’ skin turns pink or red. The skin can swell a bit. This should subside within a few hours or the following day post treatment. Corrective & Resurfacing chemical peels can cause the skin to flake and peel, which lasts 3 to 7 days with the higher level peels.

It is not recommended to start with a high strength chemical peel without consulting a skincare professional first. Chemical peels come in different strengths and formulations, and the suitability of a particular peel depends on various factors, such as your skin type, concerns, and previous experience with chemical peels.

Our trained professionals will advise you, and if resurfacing is your main goal, we will have to work with an array of different services and products to prep your skin for a resurfacing peel. Starting with a high strength chemical peel without proper guidance can lead to skin irritation, burning, and even scarring. It is essential to have a consultation with a skincare professional who can assess your skin and recommend the most suitable peel strength for your skin type and concerns. They can also provide guidance on how to prepare your skin before the peel and how to care for your skin afterward.

There is a chance for your skin to have some flakiness or a new breakout post treatment. This is completely normal due to the active ingredient in the peels bringing impurities to the surface. As long as you do not pick or pop your skin, this will be the natural healing process after the peel.

The sensation experienced during a chemical peel can vary depending on the type and strength of the peel. Our mild peels typically cause little to no discomfort, while stronger peels may cause a temporary stinging or burning sensation. While this ‘discomfort’ is temporary and can be managed with the use of our cooling techniques.

We may need to treat your skin with a skincare regime before a chemical peel treatment is completed. Please book in and enquire with your therapist to see what you will need to do before your chemical peel treatment.

Don’t exfoliate. Since a chemical peel is an in-depth exfoliation, it’s important that you don’t exfoliate for at least 1 week before your appointment. In addition, watch out for ingredients in your daily skin care products that may have an exfoliating effect. If you use such products prior to your treatment, you could cause damage to your skin.

Refrain from using make-up. You want as little dirt on your face as possible before your peel, so take a break from wearing makeup for a few days before your treatment and let your skin detox!

Avoid the sun. Most chemical peels respond better to skin that isn’t skin-damaged, so make an effort to avoid the sun as much as possible prior to your treatment, and if you are outside, make sure to wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunblock (at least SPF 30).

Stay hydrated. Your skin should be well-hydrated on the day of your chemical peel. Make sure you stop using any products that dry out your skin a few days prior to your appointment and remember to drink lots of water.

Avoid sun exposure – You should avoid direct sunlight for atleast 48 hour after the treatment. No sun beds/solariums.

Use SPF – Use a SPF that will provide protection for your face against the sun’s harmful UV ray. Make sure to implement an SPF within your daily skincare routine.

Don’t use any exfoliating products 3-5 days – It is advised that any active ingredients aren’t used on the treated skin for 3 days pre or post treatment. – e.g Retinol, Vitamin A, AHA and BHAs. Hydrating and reparative products are strongly advised.

Avoid any facial treatments/waxing – Depending on the strength of your peel which will be discussed on your consultation before the treatment you want to avoid any other facials or waxing treatments in that area up to 2 weeks following the treatment.

Do not use make up post treatment – For at least 12 hours post treatment. Perfumes and other irritating products are also not advised on the treated area.

Avoid activities or situations that make you sweat – Heavy exercise, cardio, swimming, spa & sauna, and anything to cause sweating or increasing body temperature is not recommended for 48 hours.

Do not touch or pick at scabs or flaking skin – This may cause adverse reactions to your skin and can cause permanent scarring.

Drink plenty of water – It is strongly advised to drink water post treatment and stay hydrated!
